History

Undy church has changed somewhat over the years and what we see today presents a few mysteries to the church historian!

Originally the church here had a small central tower, much like many of the other churches of this size in the area (there’s a painting of the church from this period in the quire of the church).

However when the church was restored in 1880, the tower was removed and replaced by the rather over-sized bell turret we see today. The single bell is one of the prized possessions of Undy church – it dates from the 14th century and is similar in style to the two oldest bells of Redwick. Other features of note are the Norman font and the ancient west doorway, which during a rebuilding has been reset in an off centre position. Look carefully and you will find the date 1790 carved on the porch, along with the initials of the churchwardens of the time.

The church was the subject of a major restoration in 2001 and is superbly maintained by its loyal congregation.
