
Pews and Clues – Family Treasure Hunt
June 27th and 28th 2026
Welcome to Pews and Clues, a free community event inviting people of all ages to explore local churches around the Netherwent Ministry Area, discover history and heritage, get to know each other a bit better, and enjoy a weekend of adventure, discovery and community spirit, with some great prizes to be won.
Whether you are visiting a few churches or many, we hope you enjoy discovering the history, architecture and community life across our area!

Questions….
- Q: When is the event happening?
A: Saturday 27th June, 9.30am to 7pm and Sunday 28th June, 9.30am to 12 noon. - Q: Which churches are taking part?
A: Bishton (churchyard only), Llanmartin, Nash, Undy, Caerwent, Llanvaches, Portskewett, Wilcrick, Caldicot, Llanvair Discoed, Redwick, Langstone (churchyard only), Llanwern, Rogiet, Llandevaud, Penhow, Magor, St Brides Netherwent. Click on the church links at the bottom of the page for information about each church. - Q: How do I take part?
A: Pick up a Pews and Clues ‘Passport’ at any participating church, answer the questions you find there, collect the church stamp in your Passport and visit as many churches as you can. - Q: Do I have to visit every church?
A: No – you can visit as many or as few as you like. - Q: Is there a prize draw?
A: Yes. The more churches you visit, the higher the prize category you can enter. - Q: Do I need to know church history or anything about church or religion to take part?
A: No. The questions are observational and designed to be fun and family friendly. - Q: Is the event suitable for children?
A: Absolutely. - Q: Can I complete the event over both days?
A: Yes. You can spread your visits across Saturday and Sunday. - Q: Are toilets available?
A: Some churches have toilet facilities available, though not all do. The following will have toilets available: Llanvaches (in Church Hall), Caerwent, St Brides Netherwent, Penhow, Magor, Llandevaud (in Church Hall), Caldicot, Redwick (in Church Hall) - Q: Will refreshments be available?
A: Some churches will be offering refreshments during the event. Wilcrick, (may also have Jam for sale), Caerwent, Penhow, Llandevaud, Redwick (where Redwick Village Fete will also be happening on Saturday afternoon) - Q: Can I bring a dog?
A: Yes, but please be respectful. Please keep dogs on a lead and under close control. Please pick up after your dog if necessary. - Q: What should I do if I cannot find the stamp or an answer?
A: Don’t worry – the important thing is to enjoy the event. If a stamp is missing, please contact Janet asap on 07711 439675. - Q: What if I lose my Passport?
A: You can collect another Passport from any participating church and continue your journey. - Q: Do I need to attend the prize draw to win?
A: No, if you provide contact details, we will contact you if you are a winner. - Q: What happens if the weather is poor?
A: The event will go ahead. Please dress appropriately for outdoor walking and churchyards and for the outdoor service. - Q: Can I have a cash alternative if I win a prize I don’t want or can’t use?
A: No, sorry. The prizes are as advertised and there is no cash or other alternative available.
